Prime Video is yet to determine who’ll play Kratos in its upcoming live-action TV adaptation of the God of War franchise, but fans certainly know who they don’t want to see in the role.
The series will seemingly adapt the Norse saga of games, albeit whilst referencing Kratos’ past in Greece.
Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek fame, previously told IGN that the series would “honour” Kratos and Atreus’ journey to pay respects to Faye from 2018’s God of War.
However, he added, “It has this emotional heart, but there's this sense of history of who Kratos is, this mystery about his past, what he represents, the emotions that he's going through.”

“So there's a weight to it, but not so much weight that there's not enjoyment along the way and there's spectacle and there's lots of things going on in this world,” he continued.
Filming on the series is set to begin in March 2026 in British Columbia, Canada, which must mean a casting search is underway.
Let’s face it, whoever plays Kratos will likely need some time to get in shape.
While no casting has yet been confirmed, fans are hoping that casting directors avoid obvious choices such as Jason Momoa or Dwayne Johnson.

“Honestly anyone but Jason Momoa (dude is in everything), a no-name Greek actor would be just fine....Kratos isn't exactly chatty,” wrote Reddit user sonicboom9000.
“Or Dwayne Johnson. I'm even more sick of that guy than Jason,” added despaseeto.
“Omg nooo why did you put that thought in my mind please not him please,” replied Ameen_A.
Pedro Pascal is also a name many don’t want to see, mainly because he’s practically the lead in everything else on the pop culture calendar right now.

As for who should take on the role, Christopher Judge, who portrayed Kratos in God of War and God of War Ragnarök, is a popular choice.
Judge has expressed his interest on multiple occasions although I do wonder whether the approach will be to go for a different actor to differentiate the games from the TV series.
I’d rather Judge be too busy doing mocap for the next instalment because that would mean one is definitely in the works.
Other shouts include Ralph Fiennes and Dave Bautista.

I’m surprised Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, and Tom Hardy haven’t entered the conversation.
All are beefy guys who can act.
Perhaps we’ll get a total unknown.
We can only hope that with filming set to commence in around six months, a casting reveal is due soon.

Maybe it’ll land at this year’s The Game Awards.
