breaking news

The grind never ends. Pokémon Presents may have drawn to a close, but Prime Video has just shocked us all with a first glimpse at its live-action adaptation of God of War.
I'll be honest, I didn't see that one coming today.
The upcoming television adaptation will bring the Norse Saga from Santa Monica Studio to life, with Prime Video having spent the last couple of weeks announcing casting.
It isn't quite done yet. Freya is a key role that hasn't been cast, for example.

As such, I personally didn't expect filming to have gotten underway but alas, it has.
To celebrate, Prime Video has dropped our first glimpse at the God of War series, showcasing our live-action Kratos and Atreus.
As a reminder, Ryan Hurst is bringing Kratos to life while Callum Vinson is playing Atreus.
God of War's First Look Feels More Like a Spoof or Cosplay
I really want this series to work and I'm going to attempt to give it the benefit of the doubt, but we're not off to a good start.
Already, gamers are absolutely slating the series for looking more like a spoof or cosplay than a real, gritty adaptation.
I will say, this is only a still image. We can't judge the actors at this stage because there's nothing really available here to showcase their performances.
Hurst doesn't look terrible as Kratos, but there is a slight phoniness to the whole get up that's just a tad difficult to shake.
Vinson looks incredibly young as Atreus; much younger than the character appears to be in the game.
I do already wonder what that means for when Ragnarök's events are adapted as that features a time gap.
HBO's The Last of Us is experiencing that issue where several years passed in between seasons one and two, but you don't exactly see that reflected in Bella Ramsey's appearance.
I digress. As I said, gamers are not at all impressed with the series at this very early stage.
"This gotta be AI lmao," wrote one Twitter/X user. It's not.
"It looks off, but I'm letting them cook," added another.
"That looks like Temu Kratos," said one fan. Yikes.
Hopefully, when the time is right, the series can launch a fantastic trailer and prove us all wrong. Prime Video did an excellent job with Fallout but, of course, it all comes down to who's involved on the creative team.
The God of War series remains without a release date for now, but it's perhaps not a stretch to say that we could see it arrive in early 2027 with filming underway.
