God of War Star Brilliantly Responds to Live-Action Casting

It's a shock to us all

With reports that the live-action God of War movie is expected to begin production in 2026, fans are eager to learn which actor will take on the role of our favourite Spartan warrior.

Based on the beloved video game series with the same name from Santa Monica Studio, a live-action God of War movie is in the works over at Amazon Prime Video following the success of fellow video game adaptation Fallout.

So far, with production on hold until next year, we do not know much about the adaptation other than that Ronald D. Moore will be stepping in as showrunner and that it will be based on the 2018 God of War reboot.

With a God of War live-action show, we will need a live-action Kratos and earlier this year, John Campea, former host of AMC Movie News and Collider Movie Talk shared that there is a shortlist of ten actors who could be taking on the role.

They are:

  • Henry Cavill
  • Winston Duke
  • Joe Manganiello
  • Christopher Judge (the current video game voice of Kratos)
  • Manu Bennett
  • Jason Momoa
  • Travis Fimmel
  • Oliver Ritchers
  • Dave Bautista
  • Paul Levesque

Of course, this list has not been confirmed by anybody working on the show but it is one name in particular that has gained more traction than others.

Christopher Judge.

As mentioned, Judge is the voice of God of War’s Kratos and there is no denying that, thanks to his physicality, he will be able to extend his talents to the big screen.

However, news of Judge’s possible role in the show soon got to the man himself and he took to Twitter with a hilarious response.

In reaction to a news article from CoveredGeekly which read “Christopher Judge is reportedly in talks to play the live-action Kratos in God of War”, the actor replied, “I am???” alongside three shrugging emojis and a heart.

This could be genuine confusion at the article or it could be him teasing us, knowing that he is indeed in talks to take on the iconic role.

With production still a year away, it may still be a while until Judge’s appearance is confirmed or denied but it is definitely exciting times for fans of the video game franchise who wish to see it make it to the big screen.

The live-action God of War show is expected to begin production some time in 2026.
