God Of War game quietly cancelled by PlayStation

Sounds like it was the right move though

PlayStation cancelled a God Of War game that could have potentially ruined the franchise, so it’s a good thing it didn’t go ahead.

It would have hurt even more considering the series is currently on a hiatus, with the last time we saw Kratos and Atreus actually being in the Astro Bot, what a fun time that was.

As for the next game, who knows where the winds will take Kratos next, but one thing’s for sure it’s definitely not taking him into live-service…

That’s right a live-service God Of War game was in development at PlayStation but has since been cancelled, probably for the best as Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a perfect example of where that genre of game can go wrong.

There are of course examples of where it can go right, like Helldivers 2, but I think we can all agree it wouldn’t be the right fit for God Of War and clearly PlayStation thought so as well.

Details on what the game would have been about are unknown but to theorise a bit it sounds like it might have been some sort of spin-off title, possibly not involving Kratos and following another character instead, maybe Atreus?

Either way it’s a thing of the past, but looking towards the future there’ll undoubtedly be a third game by Santa Monica, and there are also rumours that the very first God Of War game is getting remade for the PlayStation 5.

At the time of writing these are unconfirmed titles so we’ll just have to stay tuned as we wait for Kratos’ next big outing.

Personally I’m hoping to see him venture into the lands of Egyptian mythology next, as lore-wise they’re on a whole different level to the Greek and Norse gods so it’ll be interesting to see how he fairs against them.
