PlayStation Plus subscribers are scratching their heads after a free offer meant they were cut off from taking advantage of a fantastic deal.
In April 2025, on the 8th and 9th, PlayStation Plus was down, and more annoyingly, it was over the weekend, so those who had time off work and school couldn't have some much-needed game time.
It was pure chaos over those 48 hours; there was human sacrifice, dogs and cats were living together. It was mass hysteria!

Thankfully, the servers eventually came back online, and for those impacted by the outage, Sony gifted an additional five days of PlayStation Plus to subscribers.
As of right now, Sony is running its annual Days of Play event, where PlayStation gamers can get discounts on the PlayStation Store, as well as on consoles and accessories. You can also get tidy discounts on PS Plus.
The Days of Play event runs from 28 May until 11 June 2025, so as I write this, the event comes to an end today. So, if you want to take advantage of its offers, now is the time before it’s too late.
Unfortunately, if you wanted to extend or renew your PlayStation Plus but benefited from the addition of five days of compensation, you will likely encounter a major hurdle, as brought to our attention on Reddit.

“PSA: If you've been screwed over by the five extra days, contact customer support,” warned toldya_fareducation.
“I know this is last minute, but maybe it can help someone. If you're in the same boat as me, then you are not eligible for the sale because the five extra days [of PS Plus] they gave us pushed you outside the sale window,” they continued.
“I asked customer support to remove those five days, and it worked, and I got my Essential subscription renewed with the 20% off from the sale.”

However, toldya_fareducation warned that not only could it take customer service too long to reply, but technically, they shouldn't have been eligible for the PS Plus discount.
“They [Sony] told me I wouldn't be eligible for the sale even if they removed the five days, because I'm not a new subscriber. But they did it anyway, and I was eligible despite what they said, so keep that in mind if you get the same message.”
“I'm just going to get three months on 4 August, so I don't miss any of the monthly games, and then re-sub for a year on the first day of the Black Friday sale. I can't be bothered messing about with ‘support’ even when I have a real problem,” replied NotNeuge.
“I cancelled my subscription two weeks before it was due to renew, and within a few days, I received a sale to renew. So you don’t necessarily need to wait for it to lapse. So the five days should not really matter, but the sales for renewing seem to be random at best,” explained Merbel.

So, if there’s one lesson to take from this story, it's that it’s best to time your PlayStation Plus renewal to end before a big promotion to take advantage of some nice discounts.
