Elden Ring fans urged to check out PlayStation Plus free game while they can

This PlayStation Plus title could be a perfect introduction to Soulsborne games

FromSoftware fans often look for the next best Soulsborne fix to test their skills and patience against some of the most gruelling video games the sub-genre has to offer.

When Elden Ring was released in February 2022, it perhaps made FromSoftware more popular than ever. Sure, we know that there were the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne before Elden Ring but it’s fair to say that players' adventures in the Lands Between introduced new gamers to FromSoftware as indicated by its impressive sales numbers.

Check out the Steelrising trailer below!

Almost a year to the day when Elden Ring was released, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco announced its first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. There were rumours that Shadow of the Erdtree could be released very soon, but at the time of writing, we’re still awaiting its release date announcement. Until that time arrives, Soulsborne fans on Reddit have recommended a recent PlayStation Plus inclusion for February 2024 and that’s Steelrising.

“If you enjoy Souls games and the basic gameplay loop or if you’re interested in the genre but wary of the difficulty, this is a good game, said DG83GamingEnthusiast recommending Steelrising to fellow members of the Reddit thread.

“I’ve been really digging it, but also I haven’t really gotten any Soulsborne games to really click. The difficulty and repetition aren’t my thing at all, and I love that this gives me a similar style of play without the irritation,” replied IronMonopoly.

“Unpopular opinion, but I feel combat in Steelrising is better than most Souls games. The combat is faster paced, weapons are also quite diverse with different move sets, and the narration is also better,” explained Particular-Captain13 with a hot take. “Also, if you don't have the time to "git good" in FromSoftware games but still have the itch for Soulsborne, then Steelrising is amazing. It’s easy to get into with a satisfying parry mechanic.”

As suggested above, much of the Reddit thread says that Steelrising is much easier than FromSoftware titles, so if you’re looking for a way into the Soulsborne formula, perhaps this recent PS Plus freebie could be an ideal introduction.

Steelrising is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
