One of the most beloved games on PlayStation Plus has just got even better, all thanks to a new 10-hour DLC that introduces new gameplay mechanics.

PlayStation Plus is packed full of games to play in an instant from all generations, genres and budgets. There can be so many choices with Sony’s subscription service that many fantastic games can go totally unnoticed.

Some games that may have missed your radar are indie titles, especially with big-budget AAA publishers affording such a bit of marketing push, making it nearly impossible to miss the advertised game. However, some indie games capture lightning in a bottle, and all it needs is for the video game community to spread the good word.

One such game that may fit that word-of-mouth criteria is 2023’s Dave the Diver, developed and published by Mintrocket. Dave the Diver was originally released on PC and Nintendo Switch before being ported to other systems.

“Dave the Diver is a casual, single-player adventure RPG featuring deep-sea exploration and fishing during the day and sushi restaurant management at night,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Join Dave and his quirky friends as they seek to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Blue Hole.”

Dave the Diver is an Indie Sensation

Since its launch, Dave the Diver has been supported with some fantastic DLC and collaborations, including Dredge, Godzilla and Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza’s Like a Dragon series.

Now, the latest content is here for Dave the Diver with the ‘In the Jungle’ DLC that brings a new restaurant, village NPCS and even new gameplay mechanics. Mintrocket says that the new DLC offers around 10 hours of additional content.

The new village will have delightful NPCs to interact with, as well as new underwater areas to dive, explore and gather precious resources. As before, building relationships with some villages will unlock new missions and rewards.

The new restaurant is said to be “one of the biggest departures from the base game” with the introduction of the Bancho Grill.

Previously, the Bancho Sushi had restricted movements for Dave, but now he can move freely to cook and serve to his heart's content. As always, the restaurant will be an opportunity to meet many of the new villagers.

In terms of the new gameplay mechanics, the new waters of ‘In the Jungle” will “demand new tools, and Mintrocket revealed Dave’s latest piece of gear: the Jungle Gun".

The new weapon can be used to fire a net, or be used as a shotgun, sniper or ye-old regular gun on the fly.

What’s more, movement will no longer be horizontal but is now “more free-flowing, isometric view, along with real-time progression”. With the restricted time, Dave will have to focus on what is considered a priority. There will also be new mini-games and more in the new DLC.

Dave the Diver is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also coming to mobile devices sometime in 2026.
