Baldur’s Gate 3 PC fans have been feeling pretty smug, having been able to play the game since 3 August. However, that smugness might be about to be turn sour because PlayStation 5 gamers are going to have two advantages that they didn’t.

Larian Studios has revealed that PS 5 owners can pre-load the game two days before its official release on 4 September. Furthermore, if you purchase the Baldur’s Gate 3 digital deluxe version, you’ll be given early access to Act 1 from 2 September.

In addition to the above, PS players also have the benefit of having all the big fixes already issued on PC included in their downloads, essentially giving them a more polished first impression of the game. Not that the game has suffered too much since its release.

Having offered fans a chance to embrace their weird kinks with unusual romances, as well as enabling speedrunners to complete the game in a staggering 10 minutes, BG 3 has been well received already. Apart from the demand from fans to get customisation options later on, which has been teased as part of Patch 2, everything has been pretty rosy.

Having held all the cards, PC players are probably feeling a little sad that they didn’t have these advantages. Still, let’s not forget that BG 3 was brought forward a whole month earlier than planned when it released on PC on 3 August, and so they shouldn’t feel too miffed. I like to think of this as the reward PS 5 players get for putting up with the PS release being delayed by a week.

Already ranking as the tenth best game of all time on Metacritic, it’ll be interesting to see whether love from PlayStation fans will prevent Starfield from making as many waves upon its release. Even if it doesn’t, though, it’s an incredible time to be an RPG gamer.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is out on PC and will be on PlayStation for everyone on 6 September.
