PlayStation 6, next-gen Xbox first game already being teased, and we're not ready

PlayStation 6, next-gen Xbox first game already being teased, and we're not ready

We've talked about next-gen consoles for a while now, but we're not sure we're ready

It's not that we're oblivious to the truth that next-gen consoles will happen, but rather we hoped they wouldn't come so soon. It barely feels like we've got to grips with all that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series can do, yet we're already looking to the future as if they're "dead".

We know that the PlayStation 5 is in its "latter stage" of its life cycle, which, quite frankly, still sounds ridiculous to us when it feels like we've not been playing on them all that long. Yet, Sony has declared it and so it is written, meaning the inevitable push forward to next-gen has started in earnest. However, seeing publishers tease new AAA games for next-gen still makes us feel massively underprepared.

It's feels fitting that we should remember the evolution of the PlayStation 3 in light of all this next-gen discourse

It seems we're not alone in this feeling – plenty of other gamers feel it too.

When Warner Bros Games announced it's working on a new title that's intended for next-gen consoles, Reddit had a lot to say on the matter.

"'Next generation consoles', sh*t, time flies," said one fan, only for another to explain that we're four years in. To put that into perspective for you all, that's the same lifespan of the greatest console of all time, the GameCube.

Despite that being the case, gamers are still shocked and uncomfortable with next-gen consoles being bandied about so easily, as if it's time for them to launch. "Next gen?? These five year cycles are something else," posted firstdayoutthefeds, and we felt that in our bones.

You know it's too soon for something when people are more curious about the life cycle of consoles rather than the IP that's been teased. Granted, gamers are a little underwhelmed with Warner Bros after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but there's more to their disinterest than that. It's the fear that the future is coming at us too fast.
