A new mod has been uploaded for The Witcher 3 that makes the game looks like it was created for the current generation of consoles, and is free to download.

The mod was originally uploaded towards the end of last month on Nexus Mods, and offers a game that is already known for how good it looks the chance to look even better.

The Witcher 3 recently added REDkit support, so now is a great time to dive back in.

All you need to do in order to use it is download the mod, drag and drop it into a mods folder, and edit the settings in the rendering.ini file to be the same as is stated on the official page for the mod.

But what does the mod itself do? As stated on the official page, the mod:

  • Edits certain shaders so that they appear more realistic than before.
  • Increases how long the blood cover effect sticks around to one minute.
  • Makes the fur shaders better, and makes it so that the furs that NPCs are wearing actually move in the wind.
  • Adds more particles for embers, rain, snow and smoke.
  • Geralt now gets covered in blood, as do enemies.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was first released in 2015 and is developed and published by CD Projekt Red, who more recently released Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. In December 2022, a new-gen version of the game was released that offered up new outfits, a new quest, better visuals, better performance and a whole new series of bug fixes that make the game feel even better to play.

The developer is also working on a remake of the original Witcher title, which is currently unplayable on modern hardware (unless you're actually playing the game on a PC platform, that is), along with a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 that is currently extremely early in development.
