Stardew Valley players can now enjoy a free mod which introduces a Skyrim-style gameplay twist.

Now over a decade old, Stardew Valley continues to be the game that keeps on giving, with new content coming to the game over the years in the form of official updates by ConcernedApe or mods by the community.

In the case of the latter, various mods have come about which can dramatically transform the game’s tone, story, or gameplay to create something completely new.

That’s certainly the case for this new creation by Stardew Valley modder CozyPsychologist, titled Lilacor - The Talking Sword.

A rather hefty mod if you ask me, Lilacor - The Talking Sword begins with you coming across a powerful sword while exploring Pelican Town.

Astonishingly, as the name of the expansion implies, the sword is also able to speak. But more unfortunately, it’s highly opinionated.

“Lilacor is an enchanted sentient weapon with an ancient and extremely complicated relationship with his own legacy,” reads the mod description. “He has been in wars. He has sacked cities. He has attended the fall of empires. He is currently on your farm watching you water parsnips and he has a lot to say about it...and everything else.”

You'll Be Begging Stardew Valley's Lilacor The Talking Sword To Shut Up After A Little While

There are several new features included in the mod. For starters, Lilacor has “over 200 lines of dialogue covering every situation you can stumble into.”

This includes combat reactions, where Lilacor will encourage you, critique your technique, and take full credit for the kills the moment he senses something needs stabbing. Similarly, he’ll comment on various locations that you visit throughout your playthrough, such as the mines, the volcano dungeon, the sewers.

CozyPsychologist has made it a point to mention that Lilacor is also “significantly more enthusiastic about the mines than you are”.

In addition to that, Lilacor also has reactions to the weather and seasons, with fall being his favourite. He also has reactions to festivals and random NPC conversations, giving his thoughts on anything that happens to be going on (though, it’s not like anyone asked?).

Meanwhile, there are also a few story events that line up with Lilacor’s backstory that you can participate in as well. For starters, two heart events with the Wizard will unlock Lilacor’s origin story.

You can also receive letters from Krobus, Marlon, the Wizard, and one very tired anonymous former owner regarding Lilacor, but it should be noted that “None of them are particularly flattering. Lilacor is an expert at rationalizing criticism away”.

Lilacor is available at the Adventurer's Guild and Krobus' Shadow Shop for 20,000 gold, where he’ll tell you repeatedly that “he is worth every single gold piece”. If you ask me though, I'm sure you'll just want him to shut up.

If you’re interested in downloading Lilacor - The Talking Sword, you can grab it now from the Stardew Valley page on Nexus Mods.
