Stardew Valley has a brand new fan expansion for players to enjoy, and it appeals to the romantics in us all.

Nearly a decade later, Stardew Valley still proves itself as one of the best indie games of all time. And that’s largely due to how much content there is to see.

Modders are frequently supplying the game with fresh content, and it’s got to the point where Stardew Valley might be another “forever game” to add alongside Skyrim and The Witcher 3.

A new mod for Stardew Valley overhauls the marriage dialogue for the best love interest in the game. Sorry, I’m not talking about Harvey or Abigail, I’m talking about my gal Penny.

Penny is everything you could ever want in a partner. She’s well-read, thoughtful, and very independent. Plus, a redhead, what’s not to like?

Now, a new overhaul called Penny Ever After adds over 5,000 new lines for her after you marry her, covering dialogue for all sorts of scenarios you both find yourselves in.

The new writing is grouped by seasons, and covers any interactions made during your marriage, including lines for the post-marriage festival, ginger island, pregnancy, and gifting. Ideally, this means you’re much less likely to see repeated dialogue.

“I love Stardew, but I've always found the marriage aspect to be underdeveloped,” writes mod developer RacingRabbit. “Spousal dialogue starts repeating super quickly, which breaks the immersion for me. Penny arguably suffers the most due to her heavy job schedule - players see the same two options in the morning and evening for half the week.”

The new gifting lines are my particular favourite, as I always felt one of the weaker sides of the Penny marriage storyline was her limited gifting dialogue, as well as the type of gifts she accepts and gives. It should make that aspect of the marriage a lot more fulfilling.

What’s also really cool about Penny Ever After is it also features custom code for dynamic lines, utilising game states to influence what Penny says to you.

For example, she might reference specific crops you're growing, how long you've been married, how much money you have, and so on. There’s much more to this mod than meets the eye, and it’s a good one for any other fellow Penny fans to install.

Penny Ever After is available to download now.
