Pokémon Fire Red has been remade in Unreal Engine by a fan, so play it quickly before Nintendo does what it does best.

While my heart will always belong to Pokémon Platinum, the remakes of the Gen I games come in at a close second for my affection.

Who knows what The Pokémon Company has in store for us with the next title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the teaser of which you can check out below.

Now a remake of Pokémon Fire Red made with Unreal Engine 4 can be played online, and it’s bloody gorgeous.

It’s called Pokémon The Legend of RED and it reimagines the Kanto region in glorious 3D, more so than the Pokémon: Let’s Go games as it’s open world.

Stylistically, it’s actually similar to the Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet games, as the Pokémon can roam free outside of their Pokéballs, accompanying you on your journey.

The remake also features real-time combat rather than the turn-based combat found in the original Game Boy Advance games.

At the time of writing, the project is not yet complete and unfortunately it’s existence will likely be short-lived as Nintendo is renowned for striking down anything that features some of its IPs, even if they’re fan games.

We saw a similar story with Palworld, the Pokémon-inspired monster battling game that dominated the Steam charts for a short while.

While the game did enough to differentiate itself from the Pokémon games, it didn’t stop Nintendo from keeping an eye on it, and a mod that transformed the Pals into Pokémon was almost immediately struck down by the company.

Unfortunately, Pokémon The Legend of RED will likely suffer the same fate, regardless of it just being a demo at the time of writing.

Hopefully not though, as it’d be great to play the finished product, for free, on PCs if it’s ever finished.
