With a credit-card-crippling season of games on the way, we've been hot on the hunt for fantastic freebies that only charge you time and immersive energy.
And Epic Games has just hit that nail on the head. Rather than dropping demos that lead to more expenses, Epic Games Store offers weekends of free games. And this time, the platform has dropped two stellar titles that are perfect pastimes for a variety of gamers.
The free games come in the form of a fun, cartoonish, narration-heavy Starfield alternative and a game that somehow sits smack-bang in between the cosy gamer-girl and the sports-sim genres.
Breathedge
Dubbed Subnautica meets Prey, Breathedge is a space-survival sim where the fate of your existence hangs in the webbed feet of a chicken.
The concept sounds bonkers, but the puzzling title is less quirky than it sounds, with a strong narrative core and rewarding progression.
Advert
"Survive in outer space! Together with your immortal chicken, discover the truth behind your sudden spaceship crash," the description reads.
"Craft tools, pilot vehicles, and even control space stations to survive and explore the wreckage."
Breathedge comes as an Epic Games freebie ahead of its sequel title, which is set to launch in full on August 31.
Completing this title perfectly tees up its successor, which promises to iron out the wrinkles with a deeper story-driven approach.

Rival Stars: Horse Racing
The second Epic freebie is Rival Stars: Horse Racing. Now, don't get put off by its appearance, as this is the 9/10 gem we mentioned - and it's worth the plaudits.
The horse racing simulator is Nintendogs on steroids, giving you complete control of a struggling stable and horses who love to gallop but are in desperate need of attention.
The game is summarised as, "Handed the keys to a rundown ranch, it’s up to you to restore your family’s legacy and become an equestrian legend! With the help of a host of colorful characters, you’ll raise charming foals, manage your dream stable of horses, and bring the ranch back to its former glory."
With a story mode, a rearing simulator, and a racing sim rolled into one, it's a well-rounded classic.

The racing sim, more like Forza on four legs (or, fourza), is incredibly gripping if you enjoy the premise, keeping players hooked in hypnotic fashion.
"Decent game to pass the time with. Surprisingly addictive," one fan labeled it.
Another added, "The gameplay can get quite addicting; watching your horse run down the track is almost hypnotic. The horse models and movements look pretty decent, and I love how the commenter actually says some names out loud, including funny combinations like 'Egg Egg' or 'Massive Mistake.'"
Both games will be free on the Epic Games Store until Thursday, September 3.
