If you're after a Hollow Knight-inspired dungeon crawler, then look no further than this free offering to play this weekend.
'Uncompromising' and 'brutal' are the words that we used in our review to describe the extreme difficulty of Hollow Knight: Silksong, as the 'masterpiece' sequel title proved to live up to the hype that we built up for over seven painstaking years.
But Silksong has come and gone, and we're now left in a state of limbo, not knowing whether to load up and try to recapture the essence of the game by kidding ourselves into believing we've never played it before, or looking elsewhere to scratch that hollow itch.
Well, that latter method is now easier than ever before, as a Metroidvania PC game with rave reviews has just been offered up as an Epic Games Store freebie, and it's certain to fill that void in our hearts.
Released back in 2023, you might not have realised that Doomblade is everything you needed, having allowed the distant Hollow Knight memories to slip into the dark trenches of your brain.

But with Silksong putting the 2D-platform scaling genre back on the map, Doomblade has surged in popularity again, and it's clear to see why.
With 'Very Positive' receptions on Steam and an 83 rating on Metacritic, its fluid controls and fast-paced action are combined with a fantastic map that relies on backtracking and gives satisfaction at clearing difficult areas.

Its main protagonist, Gloom Girl, is everything you will have learned to love with Silksong's Hornet, so much so that they share a similar appearance, albeit with an inverted monochrome silhouette.
Finding a respected spot in this timeless genre, Doomblade rivals the best entries in the Castlevania and Metroid franchises, and now you can get it for free.
Now, as one of the latest games to land on the limited-time freebie list, Doomblade has been stripped of its $15 price tag on the Epic Games Store.
Until April 30, the game is completely free to play on Windows, giving you hours of action and challenging combat without paying a penny.
"Amazing Metroidvenia. I enjoyed the time playing the game. I would recommend it even at full price," one person wrote in the reviews.
Sadly, Doomblade is only available on PC, and not PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo.
