While we’re still waiting for GTA 6, it might be a good time to check out Manhunt’s new remaster.
Before Rockstar Games turned into solely a GTA and Red Dead Redemption studio, it also released other games, and some of them were good.
Manhunt was one of these games, where you played as a death row inmate who is forced to participate in a series of snuff films for a disgraced film producer to earn his freedom.
Although it was received well, and had a sequel in 2007, Rockstar hasn’t really done anything else with the Manhunt series since then, and probably never will.

However, a new fan-made remaster might just be what players need to pick up the game again in 2025.
As posted on ModDB, Manhunt Remixed is a mod for the original Manhunt that adds “full path traced lighting and high-res environmental and character textures to all 20 levels.”
Some comparison images have also been posted on the ModDB page, showcasing the transformative efforts by the mod’s developer gabdeg.
It all looks pretty surreal, changing the atmosphere of the original but not necessarily compromising it. Take a look for yourself by watching the video below.

To achieve all this, gabdeg redid the entire lighting system by toggling between the original visuals and the RTX Remix renderer in-game. They then had to place lights individually, attached to certain meshes or the level itself..
Manhunt Remixed has just hit release V0.1, so there’s still a lot of work to be done on the mod. Expect more updates to arrive in the coming months as gabdeg continues to work on it.
Hopefully this will help to tide us over while we wait for GTA 6, which is expected to launch on 26th May, 2026.
