Halo 2 gets third-person mode you can download now

Halo 2 feels like a new game

Without question, the Halo series is one of, if not the biggest franchise for Microsoft and its Xbox brand since its inception in 2001.

While the first game in the series, Halo: Combat Evolved wasn't the original first-person shooter on consoles, it was certainly one of the most revolutionary. Before Halo: Combat Evolved, the FPS experience on consoles was clunky and awkward but somehow, the talented folks at Bungie managed to make its FPS feel as close to the PC's keyboard and mouse while using a control pad.

Then in 2004, we were treated to Halo 2, which looked to improve on its predecessor in almost every way. For the most part, it did, though I remember at the time many gamers being unhappy that the campaign was split between the Master Chief and an Arbiter named Thel 'Vadamee, who joined forces to fight against the Covenant and the alien parasite species, the Flood.

To be fair, looking back with the power of hindsight, I believe fans were just taken aback by the fact that the Master Chief wasn't playable throughout because Halo 2 is a fantastic game with one of the best multiplayer offerings in the entire series.

In 2014, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the sequel, Halo 2: Anniversary was released which remastered the game with updated visuals and performance. Halo 2: Anniversary was released as part of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One, which later arrived on PC.

As is the tradition for the series, Halo is primarily played in a first-person perspective other than spin-offs such as Halo Wars and Halo: Spartan Assault. But if you wanted to play the likes of Halo 2: Anniversary in a third-person perspective, today is your lucky day, spartan.

Available to download for free now via Nexusmods and created by modder rorke115, you can play Halo 2: Anniversary in third-person. “This mod lets you play the full Halo 2 campaign in third-person. The sniper rifle and the beam rifle have been modified to make it work better with the mod,” reads the description of the mod.

Unfortunately for Xbox gamers, this Halo 2: Anniversary first-person mod is only available for the PC version of the game. Halo 2: Anniversary is out now on PC and Xbox One, it’s also backwards compatible with Xbox Series X/S.
