Dark Souls: The Fading Flame Is A Huge New Adventure

Return to Lordran

A new Dark Souls expansion titled The Fading Flame is a good enough reason to revisit the game in 2025.

Now nearly 14 years old, Dark Souls has proven to be a timeless experience. Not only has it gone on to inspire a countless number of games, but modders are always adding to the experience each year.

Some of our favourite Dark Souls mods like Daughters of Ash and Nightfall change the game in ambitious and dramatic ways, and The Fading Flame seems to also be doing the same.

The Fading Flame by Dark Souls modder ‘arfa’ is a mod that adds new bosses and restores cut content to give you a bit more to do.

Not only that, but it also adds a lot of other quality-of-life improvements and updates to make the game feel fresher.

Let’s take a look at it, shall we? To start with, four completely new bosses have been added. These foes have their own models and animations, and are placed in new areas to keep you on your toes.

In addition to that, two bosses have been remade with new models and animations, one has been reworked with new attacks, and several other bosses and enemies have had cut content restored to them.

It doesn’t stop there though, because The Fading Flame has also added two cut questlines, 20 new weapons, and a load of other new spells, pyromancies, and miracles.

In terms of quality-of-life upgrades, you’ll notice that backstep now has i-frames thanks to this mod, and that jumping now also kicks.

Warping can also occur to any bonfire after acquiring the Lordvessel, rather than just a set number of them.

Altogether, it sounds like The Fading Flame might be a decent mod to check out for veteran Dark Souls players who want to experience some fresh content.
