The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is coming later this year, and it might just be the Nintendo Switch 2’s ultimate game.
Fans are hyped, but Nintendo has given very little away. Our first glimpse of the remake was during the last Nintendo Direct and it was only a brief shot of Young Link sleeping soundly.
We’re still waiting for our proper look at the new-and-improved Ocarina of Time, hopefully with some cut content restored to make it the definitive version.
Judging from some of Nintendo’s recent activity though, it seems like our next look at the game is right around the corner.

The Ocarina of Time remake has been officially rated by the ESRB in the United States. It’s been labelled E10+, citing “Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence.” The game’s Nintendo Store page has been updated to reflect the change.
Ratings are usually indicative of a fresh reveal or update, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Nintendo has something good in store for us.

While the rating itself doesn’t give too much away, it is oddly reassuring to see it get the E10+ rating. It’s the same as the original on the Nintendo 64 and the remastered version for the Nintendo 3DS, so it implies some of the darker themes and events in the game are still there.
There might still be a teeny-tiny bit of censorship, however. For example, the Great Fairies are expected to get a redesign given their ‘suggestive’ noises in the original release.
We’ll hopefully find out in the game’s next trailer, but what we’re really hoping for, aside from gameplay, is a release date.
Nintendo has confirmed the game will be launching later this year, but didn’t provide a month. So far, November/December seems like a safe bet, especially the former, as it’d sync up nicely with the game’s original November 21 launch in Japan back in 1998. It was later released a couple days later in North America on November 23, and finally on December 11 in Europe.
Is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake a tale in two parts?
There was an awful lot of speculation that the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake would be split into two parts, with one focusing on Young Link’s portion of the game and the other on Adult Link. It’s said to be like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remakes, which split one game into three parts…
Given the title of the remake though, it feels safe to say that’s not going to be the case, and the rumoured price implies it’ll be a pretty straightforward remake as far as new features are concerned.
We’re expecting some changes to item locations and map layouts, and the introduction of optional control schemes, like the Switch 2’s Gyro-Aiming for the bow and arrow. Mouse Controls for the Bombchu would also be kind of fun.
There’s no reason not to expect the full experience, though, unless Nintendo has a nasty surprise up its sleeve. Surely it could predict the backlash from fans if it tries to sell people half of a remake.
