This Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is absolutely jaw-dropping, and you can play it right now for free.

Many fans can claim what is the best video game of all time. At the end of the day, what is considered to be the best game, movie or TV series is subjective, with each person often having a different opinion from the last.

Over the years and across multiple generations, we’ve been blessed with the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2, Half-Life 2, Baldur’s Gate III, Mass Effect 2, and more.

Each of the mentioned games above has scored highly on the aggregate website, Metacritic. However, no game has scored higher than 1998’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 with an almighty 99.

Don’t get me wrong, Ocarina of Time is still an amazing game to play today, but in fairness, due to its age, its gameplay and visuals don't feel or look as great as they once were. Especially if you’re used to more recent entries in the series.

We did get a re-release of the beloved Legend of Zelda entry in 2011 with Ocarina of Time 3D on the Nintendo 3DS, but this was arguably more of a remaster with some gameplay tweaks rather than being a remake.

No doubt fans would love to see a proper remake built from the ground up for Ocarina of Time. Sadly, that does not seem to be happening anytime soon. That being said, a talented indie developer has taken matters into their own hands.

As brought to our attention by DSOgaming, the YouTubeer, CryZENx, has released a stunning fan-made remake for Ocarina of Time, powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The free downloadable demo in question is locked at 30 frames per second, and lets you play sections of Lake Hylia and Zora Fountain. There is a 60fps version, but that is locked behind a paywall (which is fair).

What’s more, the demo has been updated from a previous version that now includes enhanced water and lighting effects. The Link and Great Fairy character models have also received a makeover. Finally, the controls have been made to feel more responsive.

Unfortunately, to play this demo, you will need a capable system, and if you’re able to, I’m not jealous at all. Honestly.

If you don't own a capable PC or still have access to a Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is also playable with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription.
