The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is widely regarded as one of the best games of all time, especially of the past decade and was a revolutionary game for the Nintendo Switch.

However, it now seems as though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s popularity will soon be back in the spotlight after the news that it is arriving on yet another platform.

Currently available on both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first released back in 2017 and takes place at the end of the Zelda timeline.

The story follows Link as he sets out on a journey to save Princess Zelda and prevent Calamity Ganon from destroying the world.

Praised for its gameplay, open-world design and attention to detail, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild soon welcomed a sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, in 2023 and the duo have become a must-play pair on the Nintendo Switch.

However, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now getting unofficial VR support with full motion controller support.

Courtesy of modder Crementif, the emulated version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will now welcome 6DOF PC VR support to the game.

The ‘BetterVR’ mod will bring studio-rendered, 6DOF VR support, including full hand and arm support for in-game mechanics such as wielding weapons and torches and the occasional Bokoblin arms.

How To Access the New Port

Using Cemu, the emulated version of Breath of the Wild, the mod is designed for the Wii U and so you will need to own a full copy of the game.

“While I put a lot of effort into this mod, not everything works. Expect some jank that’ll be resolved over time,” Crementif shared.

“AMD graphic cards might not be supported (at launch at least). During testing we could not get it to work on an AMD system due to a driver bug.”

As a result, performance will “not be as good as a native VR title due to CPU-heavy emulation.”

However, it is still “very playable” on the following units:

  • i9-13900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB RAM, Pimax Crystal Super
  • Ryzen 7600x, RTX 3060 12GB, 32GB RAM, Meta Quest 3

The VR version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now available and will make for the perfect way to bring in the new year.
