Being a gamer of this generation can be a wonderful thing, especially when it comes to sharing our creativity with the community and the mod project that is the topic of today’s discussion emphasises that sentiment.

One of the most popular games that encourages creativity is none other than the juggernaut known as Minecraft which has inspired a generation of budding developers and creators as well as video games such as Roblox and Super Mario Maker.

In this day and age, with the right tools and talent, the creative possibilities are endless, but what if we wanted to take that creativity back a few generations, let’s say to the N64 era? If that sounds like your cup of tea, this Super Mario 64 maker might pique your interest.

When Super Mario 64 was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996 it helped shape the 3D platformer genre for years to come and became an instant classic garnering scores such as 94 on the aggregate website, Metacritic. To this day, Super Mario 64 remains a hit with fans being playable via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion as well as the Switch and 3DS consoles.

However, what if you wanted more from Super Mario 64, such as being able to create your own levels to share with the Nintendo community? As reported by Kotaku, this is where the awesome Mario Builder 64 comes into play.

A modder named Rovertronic has created the Mario Builder 64 which by the looks of things, seems to be very accessible for a variety of skill levels. It must also be stated that if you want to get your creative juices flowing with Mario Builder 64, you will need an emulator on your PC as well as an SM64 ROM to get it running.

Hopefully, Nintendo won't issue a cease and desist for this amazing mod but given its history of takedowns, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. So just in case, you might want to check out Mario Builder 64 before it's potentially wiped from existence.
