Skyrim is playable on a Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, thanks to a very talented Redditor.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most beloved fantasy RPGs of all time, and some might say that it’s the best entry in the Bethesda series. Though 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will always be my personal favourite.
That being said, whether it’s Oblivion, Skyrim or even 2002’s Morrowind, fans of The Elder Scrolls series have eaten well over the years, and there’s still plenty of its goodness that should continue to keep us entertained until The Elder Scrolls VI decides to grace us with its presence.
Speaking of which, fans were sent into a frenzy after a game with the number “six” was teased for the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct taking place on 22 January 2026. Some hoped that it would be related to The Elder Scrolls VI, but it might be wise to curb that enthusiasm.
Where Can’t We Play Skyrim, at This Point?
Returning to the topic at hand, yes, Skyrim is playable on the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, a tiny handheld console that was first released in 2003. But to be fair, this shouldn't be all that surprising, considering that Skyrim is technically playable on a fridge.

“Did anyone get the GBA SP update?” teased Reddit user Apprehensive-Word891, showing off-cam footage of Skyrim being played on the retro handheld console in question.

Of course, to make this possible, not only is it pure wizardry, befitting of the mages in Tamriel, but it’s also a heavily modded console that does not play the game natively. For starters, Skyrim isn't available on GBA SP cartridges, and Skyrim wasn't released until eight years later.
“My God, could you imagine if we had this?” replied BB0214, to which Apprehensive-Word891 jokingly flexed with, “I do not have to imagine.”
“This is the kind of cool I aspire to be,” declared Stinson42.
“You can do it with a Game Boy Advance TV tuner. Pretty neat device that plugs into the cartridge slot and allows you to plug in an AV cable to display the audio/video to the GBA,” explained Cooked_Fish_Meat. “It doesn’t actually play Skyrim on the GBA, basically turns the GBA into a tiny TV screen that’s displaying another console’s Skyrim. Pretty cool nonetheless.”
