With the news that Xbox will be hosting its annual Developer Direct showcase later this month, The Elder Scrolls 6 fans are hopeful that this will finally be the time that we will receive an update for the highly anticipated sequel.

It is hard to believe that it has been almost eight-years since The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced during 2018’s E3 conference, courtesy of Bethesda.

As the highly anticipated sequel to 2011’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it is safe to say that fans have been waiting a long time for the continuation of the RPG franchise.

Unfortunately, with Bethesda also hard at work on Fallout 5, it seems as though TES VI has taken a backseat, especially thanks to a lack of updates, trailers, or any related media over recent years.

However, with Xbox hosting its Developer Direct showcase later this month, it could finally be time.

As of right now, we know that the event will showcase some exciting upcoming releases such as the Fable reboot and Forza Horizon 6 which will take players to Japan for the first time.

Additionally, we will learn more about Game Freaks’ upcoming action-RPG titled Reincarnation.

Although there has not been official confirmation of The Elder Scrolls 6 being featured at the showcase, one cryptic post may just hint at its presence.

According to Xbox, 2026 will be a “big year for games ending in 6”.

2026 Could Be Our Year

Of course, this could be referring to Forza Horizon 6 or the even bigger Grand Theft Auto VI which is expected to launch this November.

However, it could also be referencing The Elder Scrolls VI.

As a result, fans have gone wild and have taken to social media to share their thoughts.

“God that hurts to read. That could genuinely be a little hint and it could also be absolutely unrelated to TES,” one user commented, bagging themselves the top comment over on r/TESVI.

Another agreed, adding, “Interesting, maybe TESVI gets a trailer later this year.”

With not even an official trailer under its belt, other than a brief teaser trailer posted back in 2018, we think it's pretty unlikely that The Elder Scrolls VI will actually launch this year.

However, this cryptic social media post could be referring to that trailer or at least an update.

Let us face it, we'll take anything at this point!

Luckily, Xbox will be hosting its Developer Direct on 22 January 2026 so we only have a few days left to find out if our prayers have been answered.
