Pokémon is once again delivering the goods with another banger freebie you won’t want to miss, you’ve earned it.
This time we’re not talking about the disappointing Pokémon Champions either, as while it’s a solid, free addition to your Nintendo Switch library it seems like the majority of fans can agree it’s left us wanting more.
The next freebie to take advantage of is for a proper Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends Z-A.
We’ve heard it countless times when watching the old animated series, Pokémon is all about wanting to be the very best like no one ever was.
To do this you need to become a Pokémon master and while defeating the Pokémon League and reigning champion are the quickest way to do this, it’s also just the beginning.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A doesn’t have a Pokémon League but the Z-A Battle Royale is the next best thing, after thrashing all other trainers your next goal is to complete the Pokedex.
There are currently three different versions of the Pokedex found in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
You have the Lumiose City dex, the Mega-Evolution dex, and the Mega-Dimension dex unlocked after buying the game’s DLC.
Dedicated trainers that complete all three will now receive a unique reward, in the form of the shiny Pokémon Volcanion. We’ve loved this fella ever since he graced our playthroughs in Pokémon Pokopia, before putting on a fireworks show for the ages.
Volcanion will be a strong addition to your team too, coming with the moves: Steam Eruption, Flare Blitz, Hydro Pump, and Heavy Slam.
To unlock him you need to acquire every Pokémon found in the base game and DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, then you need to make sure your game is connected to Pokémon HOME.
Once you’ve done that you confirm you’ve completed them in the Games tab section, upon which a Mystery Gift will be unlocked containing your Volcanion.
For trainers who’ve already caught ‘em all, this gift will still be available for you to claim, it’s not just for new players. Just keep in mind that it can only be claimed by one linked Nintendo account, so if you have multiple on the go make sure you’re claiming it with the right one.
Volcanion is specifically the reward for Pokémon Legends Z-A’s Pokedex but there’s a different Pokémon available for the other Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch.
If you’ve completed the Pokedex on games like Pokémon Sword and Shield or Pokémon Scarlet and Violet make sure you’ve claimed the freebies to go with them, they’ll still be available if not.
The next challenge will be Pokémon Winds And Waves releasing next year for the Nintendo Switch 2.
It doesn’t look like it’ll be an easy pokedex to complete either as the open-world looks like the biggest one yet, so expect a lot of island hopping before proving your mastery once again.
