A new update for Pokémon Legends: Z-A just dropped, and it seems that Game Freak has heard fans’ cries and made some changes to how Ranked Battle rewards work (and they’ve even thrown in a few bug fixes, for good measure).
Update 1.0.2 for Pokémon Legends: Z-A just went live for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and, thankfully, it’s made grinding Ranked Battles slightly less of a slog.
To gain Mega Stones for specific 'Mons, players have to essentially grind Ranked Battles in a bid to earn Mega Shards. Get enough Mega Shards, and you can combine them into a Mega Stone (for whichever Pokémon is currently the focus of that season’s rewards).
Sounds straightforward enough in theory, but players have been complaining about how difficult it is to earn said Mega Shards ever since the game dropped.

Essentially, the higher you progressed, the worse the rewards seemed to get, with players complaining that the three minute long battles often only resulted in them getting one, measly Mega Shard.
It seems Game Freak has finally addressed this in Patch 1.0.2 however, as the Japanese patch notes (thank you to Nintendo Life for the source) specifically state that “points earned based on ranking” have been tweaked, and that they’ve even “added and increased” the rewards “that can be received for each battle”.

Plus, they’ve even thrown a few general bug fixes into the mix too, so surely the overall community is pretty happy, right?
Well, the reaction seems mixed, based on the reactions to the patch over on the r/NintendoSwitch subreddit.
While fans seem happy that certain issues have been addressed, the majority of commenters still think there’s a lot more work left to be done.
“While I was only expecting bug fixes this time around, I hope moving forward they consider adjust the drop rates for the Infinite ZA Royale. Getting anything except Big Nuggets and vitamins is a chore”, commented user Chronotakular.
“Dang is it only bug fixes? I was hoping for a toggle ZL option for the battles”, replied user Danny_Fenton.
That being said, news regarding the Mega Dimension DLC is meant to drop in the next hour, so I wouldn't be surprised if another, beefier update for Pokémon Legends: Z-A is on its way very, very soon.
However, knowing Nintendo and Game Freak, I have a feeling that the new DLC announcement might come paired alongside some news that will upset the Pokémon again.
