Pokémon Colosseum finally returning on Nintendo Switch 2

Pokémon fans can rejoice; the hit arena game/RPG Pokémon Colosseum is returning to modern consoles.

Yesterday Nintendo gave us a closer look than ever before at the Nintendo Switch 2, including a detailed glimpse at the hardware itself, as well as some of the games coming to the system when it launches.

Amongst them was a brand-new Mario Kart game, with a wacky new twist as usual.

One of the biggest announcements for me though was Nintendo GameCube games joining the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, something retro fans have been dying to see happen for ages.

Finally, that wish has been granted and while there’ll only be a handful of games available when GameCube launches on NSO, it was confirmed plenty more titles will follow, including Pokémon Colosseum.

For those that haven’t played it, Pokémon Colosseum was the closest thing to a traditional home console Pokémon game back in the day.

Nowadays, you’ve got the likes of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and Pokémon Legends: Z-A as the latest home console games but back then, the Pokémon series was primarily a handheld one.

Pokémon Colosseum wasn’t as fleshed out as the normal handheld games, but it did give you an open-world to explore, as well as plenty of battles to undergo with your chosen Pokémon.

It also offered arena modes much like the Pokémon Stadium games that came before it for the Nintendo 64.

The return of the game is a huge win for fans, as both Pokémon Stadium games can already be played via Nintendo Switch Online making Pokémon Colosseum the only one really missing.

Also announced alongside it was Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, another game in a similar style to Pokémon Colosseum but with a few key differences, including the story.

These games, as well as other GameCube titles, will be joining Nintendo Switch Online from 5 June, when the Nintendo Switch 2 launches. They will be Switch 2 exclusives.
