The Nintendo Switch is not best known for its customisation offerings, but it seems as though Nintendo is trying to rectify that by releasing a bunch of free downloads for owners.

There was once a time where we could customise our handhelds, add fully dynamic backgrounds to our console home screens and overall, make our gaming hardware our own.

Check out one of the newest Mario entries, Super Mario Party Jamboree, in the trailer below!

In recent years, companies have seemingly given up with this despite user bases still calling out for more customisation.

Luckily, it seems as though Nintendo is making the move to put this right by regularly releasing batches of free customisation downloads for Nintendo Switch owners.

Released in the form of icons, backgrounds, and avatar frames, these free downloads regularly rotate - and up for grabs this week is a batch of Super Mario related goodies.

Almost 80 new downloads are available, including icons of Mario, Peach, and Luigi, as well as Mario level inspired backgrounds and frames to adorn your profile picture.

This selection will be available until 18 November before the line-up changes once again.

Each customisation download costs 10 Platinum Points and before you ask, “Well, how is it free?”, Platinum Points are free currency earned by simply completing easy tasks, including surveys after each purchase.

For those interested, the other Switch currency is Gold which is earned through buying content via the Nintendo eShop. Saving Gold up will allow you to earn money off your next big purchase.

However, Platinum is a lot easier to come by so you will have plenty stocked up to be able to make your “purchase”.

To find the free Super Mario downloads, simply head to the Nintendo Switch home screen > Nintendo Switch Online and finally Missions & Rewards.
