A new rumour suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to get an updated hardware design later this year.
Following the news that the Switch 2 is set to get a price increase in South Korea in September, it seems the console is also set to get a revision to its LCD screen.
The rumour comes from the Bluesky account "Nintendo Patents Watch", a profile which covers patents, tech, and business behind various Nintendo products.
"A new model of Switch 2 LCD panel, most likely by Sharp, has surfaced on a Chinese resale site (img 1). Compared with the launch model from Innolux (img 2), the exposed circuit, connector, and cables are significantly different (imgs 3-4), indicating an updated design—not merely a minor revision," reads the post from Nintendo Patents Watch.

Currently, the LCD screen on the console is manufactured by Innolux, while the new screen will be manufactured by Sharp.
An LCD overhaul for the Switch 2 is something that fans have wanted for a while. Although the screen is leaps and bounds above the original Switch, it falters a little when it comes to showing fast motion on-screen.
It seems to indicate that this is more of a change in manufacturer, perhaps to cut costs amidst growing costs of hardware, which has resulted in various gaming consoles and platforms having to up their price.

Unfortunately, there still seems to be no sign of a Nintendo Switch 2 OLED being announced, which is something a lot of fans have been holding out for.
While the original Switch came out in 2017, its LCD screen was criticised for being easy to scratch, prone to dead pixels, and being unreadable in certain light settings.
The OLED addressed many of these problems when it launched three years later in 2021, with Nintendo learning from many of the mistakes with the first version of the Switch with this hardware revision.
It also took these into consideration when designing the Switch 2's screen, but that doesn't mean it's free of criticism following reports of the screen having a slow response time.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be getting a price increase in South Korea on September 1, seeing the price of the console increase from ₩648,000 to ₩758,000.
If you convert those prices to US dollars, that's roughly from $420 to $490.
These price increases have come about due to the global RAM shortage, which has seen reduced stock of hardware like RAM, graphics cards, and SSD storage devices.
Much of this stock has been secured by AI companies to power their data centres, leaving other industries relying on the tech to eat the increased costs.
This has led to price hikes on hardware such as the Xbox Series X/S, the PlayStation 5, and the Steam Deck.
It also led to the Steam Machine being delayed throughout most of 2026, with the final price being a lot higher than what Valve would have wanted to price it at originally.
