The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 will both see major price hikes later this year - sad news for those who are yet to upgrade to the latter new-gen console.
Nintendo was having a pretty good week too with the announcement of a Star Fox 64 Remake, which pretty much confirms in our minds that the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is set to follow.
However, those wanting to play these Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives but don’t own the console will need to act fast if they want to get ahead of the next price increase.
Nintendo announced the price hike on its website but how much more you’ll be paying and when you’ll be paying it will depend on where you live.
In Japan, the price increases will be as follows, going into effect from 25 May onwards.
Outside of Japan only the Nintendo Switch 2 will see a price hike, so anyone after a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED, or Nintendo Switch Lite has nothing to worry about.

The before-tax prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States, Canada, and Europe are as follows, going into effect from 1 September onwards.

We’re seeing a roughly $50 dollar increase across the board which does pack quite a punch especially when the Nintendo Switch 2 wasn’t a cheap bit of kit in the first place.
This also doesn’t take into account any console revisions that might be on the way like the Nintendo Switch 2 OLED, if such a thing exists.
Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also see a price increase but only in Japan and South Korea.
This price hike does sting but on the bright side, the price of Nintendo Switch 2 games has changed too. Over the last few months, Nintendo has introduced more dynamic pricing, reducing the price of games sold digitally compared to their physical counterparts.
After revealing the updated prices Nintendo said on its website: “We sincerely apologise for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding.”
So if you’re yet to upgrade from a Nintendo Switch to a Nintendo Switch 2, now is definitely the time to do so.
Those living in Japan have until the end of the month to grab a new console whereas those living in the United States, Canada and Europe have until 1 September.
