The Nintendo Switch 2, that mythical beast, is still nowhere to be found despite 2024 ending in a few days.

We’ll definitely see it revealed next year, though the leaks have been a mixed bag of people hating on the design and the specs not being as jaw-dropping as people expected. Though I don’t know what exactly they expected as Nintendo has never really prioritised graphics on any console.

That said its games are still visually impressive, like The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom for a start

According to the leaks the Nintendo Switch 2 will be significantly less powerful than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though this is hardly a surprise.

What is a surprise is the console will apparently cap the framerate at 30fps with 4K visuals, which isn’t the worst thing in the world but it’s a disappointment to those that wanted 60fps.

Personally, I’ve never cared too much about framerates and was never expecting Nintendo to care either, though it is a bit of a kick in the teeth when you consider what games will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The worrying one is Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as Pokémon Legends: Arceus was a good game but didn’t look fantastic, and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet just looked bad to be frank.

Hopefully the next game is an improvement, and as for Nintendo’s first-party titles they usually look and play the part purely from Nintendo knowing its own hardware.

Nevertheless I’m sure there’ll be disappointment surrounding these specifications, but let’s be honest the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a supplementary console to pair with an Xbox or PlayStation, I don’t think anyone is buying it solely for the purpose of next-gen gaming.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to launch sometime next year, probably towards the end given there’s been no reveal yet.
