Nintendo Switch 2 first free download announced

Early Nintendo Switch 2 adopters already getting rewarded

Those who copped a Nintendo Switch 2 early are already getting treated to an exclusive freebie in one of the most popular games of all time, and it sounds like the only way to get said freebie in-game will be by claiming it on a Nintendo Switch 2 system.

Hey, do you have a Nintendo Switch 2 already? Well, firstly, congrats, but secondly, do you want some free stuff for that £400 console you just bought?

If your answer to that question is “yes, oh god please yes, there’s nothing left in my bank account”, then mosey on over to Fortnite and grab yourself a free, unique emote for being such a loyal Nintendo customer.

“Until March 31, 2026, you’ll get the Wishing Star Emote the first time you log into Fortnite on Nintendo Switch 2”, Epic Games revealed on the official Fortnite website.

“Grab a shooting star, make a wish, and throw it back! You can’t go on an air ride with it, but it’s the next best thing. The Wishing Star Emote may be available for purchase in the Fortnite Shop at a later date beyond March 31, 2026.”

As the press release states, it seems this is something that is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 users (for the next year at least).

I’m not sure if this is going to inspire many people to go out and buy a Nintendo Switch 2 just for this, but hey, at least it's something.

Perhaps more interestingly however, is the little segment in the press release that states that Joy-Con mouse support is coming to the game on June 7th.

Given all of the drama about how Fortnite tournaments allow controller users to use aim assist, I wonder if the whole Joy-Con mouse function is going to upset even more competitive players?
