Nintendo has called out a gamer, shaming them in a hilarious email that might head to all our inboxes very soon.
As gamers, we’re all familiar with the term “pile of shame”, a phrase used to describe our ever-increasing collection of video games that we have no intention of playing anytime soon or may have been forgotten about, with us being so easily distracted by the latest new release.
For example, I bought the Yakuza spin-off Lost Judgment at launch in 2022, and despite it being a fantastic game, I’ve only just gotten around to finishing it in the last couple of weeks. And that’s just one example, which I’m sure we can all relate to.
As brought to our attention by Reddit user Signpostlake, they received an email from Nintendo, suggesting that they should stop buying and playing new games until some of their backlog is cleared.
“Nintendo just emailed to call out my backlog,” they revealed. “To be fair, my backlog is getting a little silly now. Anyone else get called out?”
Advert
Just in case you’re curious, Signpostlake is being called out for not finishing the spooky indie title, inspired by the likes of X-Files and Twin Peaks, Thimbleweed Park, which is a good game, it has to be said.
“That game is sooooo good! Please, original poster, play it!” pleaded KnowHope2113.
“That's why I buy physical, Nintendo has no idea how big of a problem I really have,” replied Junior-Ad-2207.
“Backlog shaming is real,” exclaimed Robotboss.
“If you wanted me to play my backlog, then why did you release Pokémon Pokopia?” asked Pleakley to Nintendo, making a very valid point.
“They don't wanna see my Steam backlog.....or gaming backlog in general,” exclaimed Darsparx.
“I'm surprised that I haven't been sent this email. I have a lot of original Switch digital games that I probably never even opened. I usually get the email about my Platinum coins and how to spend them,” said DragonSpirit197.
The Redditor who mentioned Pokémon Pokopia raises a very good point about what is already one of the best games of 2026. It can be described as Pokémon meets Animal Crossing, and once it has you hooked, there’s no escaping its loop.
“Pokémon Pokopia is a true adventure that boasts a refreshing sense of freedom. Totally devoid of grind, this experience rewards the curious with heaps of content on offer,” said GAMINGbible’s Kate, in her review. “You’ll be hard pressed to put it down, and it's certainly a title that we’ll all be discussing when this year’s GOTY discussion rolls around.”
