Aspyr has remastered two massive RPGs from the Lord of the Rings franchise this week, bringing two of the best games of the past 10 years to Nintendo Switch 2.
As revealed yesterday, Aspyr is remastering and re-releasing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War, on Nintendo Switch 2.
Both games will release on September 30, and mark the first time the games are available natively on current-gen systems.
The collection features both titles set in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings universe, along with all DLC and updates included that were released during their respective post-launch periods.

For Shadow of Mordor, this means players also have access to Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord expansions, along with the bonus warband missions, runes and skins that became available in the post-launch.
Meanwhile, Shadow of War includes the Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel story expansions, along with the two Nemesis Expansions: Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe.
There is a small caveat here that this version of the game is optimised for offline play, meaning the online content from the original release of Shadow of War is unavailable. This includes Online Conquests, Vendettas, Fight Pits, Chests, and Training Orders.
Out on September 30, 2026, the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle can be pre-ordered now with a 50% discount available until launch, putting the current price at $34.99, down from $69.99.
You can also pre-order the games separately, with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition available for $9.99 ($19.99 before the 50% discount) and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition available for $24.99 ($49.99 before the 50% discount).

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis system remains unmatched even over 10 years later
The Middle-earth: Shadow games are among some of the best RPGs of the past 15 years, often attributed to the inclusion of the Nemesis System.
The Nemesis System is a game mechanic present in both games that tracked enemy Uruk captains who you come into contact with. These enemies have unique strengths and weaknesses that you can exploit in combat, where killing one can weaken Sauronâs army, while being killed by one can make them stronger.
For example, an Uruk that survives an encounter against you may be promoted and have new strengths based on how you fought them previously. A lot of this is randomly generated behind the scenes, making Shadow of Mordor and its sequel quite fun to replay.
The system has been called one of the âgreatest everâ game mechanics in a game, to the point where Warner Bros. patented the system in 2016 and didnât use it again outside of the two Shadow games. The patent is expected to expire in 2036.
Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, 2026. Aspyr has also confirmed that more remasters for classic Middle-earth games are also in the works.
