While there were some terrific announcements from Nintendo during yesterday’s Direct showcase, there was little in the way of news for Zelda fans, leaving many upset and disappointed.

It’s not like there was no news, we did get more information on the upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, but there wasn’t even a tease for a new entry in the mainline series.

Perhaps that was to be expected, given that Nintendo focused on Mario for a large part of the Direct, due to the mascot’s 40th anniversary.

With no new information, not even a remaster in sight, fans over on Reddit were less than happy to see no showings for The Legend of Zelda.

“Don’t mind me, just applying my clown makeup while I hope the next Zelda remake/remaster is revealed, even though Hyrule Warriors isn’t out yet,” commented one fan.

Realistically, the next full fat Zelda game is likely a few years away, as Tears of the Kingdom wasn’t all that long ago.

With this in mind, one Redditor notes, “HD ports from the Wii U is the only realistic announcement. Something about an OoT remake would be a long shot. Even a tease for a new 3D Zelda is a pipe dream.”

Putting it in simpler terms, this fan said, “This was so bad.”

Of course, what was shown has given one fan some hope, as they jokingly reflect on the appearance of Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel.

They wryly comment, “Me, reapplying clown makeup for having hope that one day the WW/TP combo rerelease will happen after seeing the Galaxy 1/2 combo rerelease.”

One could argue that Hyrule Warriors coming off of Tears of the Kingdom and Echoes of Wisdom is us eating good, or you can see it like this Redditor who sadly notes, “being a Zelda fan in 2025 has to be so painful.”
