Nintendo Switch 2 users can now play a demo for a much-loved JRPG, which is making a big return later this year.
During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV, the first new trailer for the game since 2022.
The new footage reveals more of the game’s plot, as well as featuring the return of characters like Sora, Goofy, and Donald Duck, and overall, it seems like a return to form for the series, which hasn’t seen a new entry in six years.
Ahead of the rumoured 2027 release of Kingdom Hearts IV, Square Enix is also bringing the rest of the series to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year on 8 October 2026.

The collection, titled Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], features the first three games in the series, as well as ports of spin-offs, side games, and DLC which came to the series over the years.
If you want to jump in now ahead of the bundle’s release, you can now play a demo for KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind, featuring the beginning of the game through the early stages of Olympus and part of Toy Box World.
Save data from the Olympus section will carry over to the full game, whereas your progress in Toy Box World will not.

Unlike the cloud versions, which were made available on Nintendo Switch back in 2022, the new versions of the classic Kingdom Hearts games are fully native and will run on the Switch 2 hardware, negating the need to stream them from the cloud.
Native versions of KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- will also be available to pick up on Nintendo Switch.
In addition to Nintendo Switch 2, these games will also come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Microsoft Store.
If you don’t want to buy them as part of a bundle, Square Enix is also making them available individually across all platforms.
Meanwhile, pre-ordering the collection on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S will allow you to receive an exclusive in-game item which corresponds to the platform you play on.
Nintendo users will get a Long Night keyblade, PS5 players will get a Midnight Blue keyblade, and Xbox players will receive a Phantom Green keyblade.
The blurb on the Kingdom Hearts series reads: “Join Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy as they travel through Disney and Pixar worlds to overcome Darkness through the power of the Keyblade, all while befriending and experiencing the stories of a magical cast of Disney and Pixar characters.
“This emotionally rich, narrative-driven story sends players on a fun and heartfelt quest rooted in the power of friendship, all while experiencing engaging real-time combat with evolving mechanics that are optimised for modern consoles.”
