It looks like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, that’s if a recent rumour is believed.
Since its inception in 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, GTA V has become one of the most successful entities in all of entertainment, and not just in the world of video games.
Not only has GTA V been praised for its epic single-player campaign, but its multiplayer offering, GTA Online, has been a huge success too, not to mention very financially lucrative for Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive. It’s why both games have launched on every console generation since 2013.
As for Red Dead Redemption 2, while this hasn't shared the same global success as GTA V, especially with its Red Dead Online mode, RDR2 is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, and even when played on last-gen hardware, the 2018 title still holds up remarkably well today.
According to a recent rumour, that might actually happen. During an interview with Pocket Tactics, Andy Fong, a technical director at the development studio Virtuos, says that they are “eager” to port GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Nintendo Switch.
Advert
Previously, Virtuos ported another Rockstar Games-published title, L.A. Noire, to the Nintendo Switch in 2017, so it does have history with the company.
When asked what he’d like to see Virtuos work on in the future, he replied: “[The] team is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch. We’re personally big fans and believe these games can shine again on the Switch, delighting even more players.”

I would assume that when Andy Fong mentions the Nintendo Switch, he means 2025’s Switch 2. As much as we’d love to see it, and for it to be functional, I think the processing requirements alone for huge games such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 could kill the poor OG Switch.
Saying that, while I believe 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 could be too demanding for the OG Nintendo Switch, an enhanced version of the PS3/Xbox 360 GTA V might work. After all, games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Alien: Isolation have received fantastic ports on the 2017 console.
However, the words of Andy Fong are mere hearsay at this time, but if anything official develops from this, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC port hasn't been announced yet.
