It looks like there’s a chance that the highly anticipated GTA VI could release on the last console we’d expect.
Well, perhaps the last console I’d expect would be something like the retro Atari 2600 or the NES, which would be quite awesome, to be fair. Saying that, it wouldn't surprise me at all if an indie dev created a demake of GTA VI for the NES.
As long as it suffers no further delays, fans are looking forward to the next entry of Rockstar Games’ ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series to arrive about halfway into 2026. Hopefully, I’ve not just gone and cursed its current release date. If I have, I apologise in advance.
When GTA VI does grace us with its presence, it will no doubt be the biggest game of that year, likely breaking all sorts of sales and concurrent player records.

At the time of writing, GTA VI is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Sadly, the PC version hasn't been announced yet, but judging by previous Rockstar Games habits, hopefully, there’s a good chance it will arrive about a year after its console launch.
However, according to a recent rumour, PC isn't the only platform that could be getting GTA VI outside of PlayStation and Xbox, because there’s a chance that it might be released on Nintendo Switch 2.
As picked up by Gameranx, Reece Reilly, aka Kiwi Talkz, claims that discussions will be taking place between Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games and Nintendo to bring GTA VI to the new hybrid console.
When stating that eight developers have confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is headed to the Nintendo Switch 2, replying to a tweet from a follower, he also made the GTA VI claim.

“I can guarantee that Nintendo will be trying to negotiate with Rockstar behind the scenes to get GTA VI,” said Reece Reilly.

Of course, it’s mere speculation that GTA VI is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, but it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility. I guess the major hurdle would be to optimise GTA VI for handheld mode.
If GTA VI is successfully optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2, I’m sure it would be no walk in the park, even for the talented developers at Rockstar Games, and it might take a good year or two for that to come to fruition.
As it stands right now, Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 26 May 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
