Nintendo has given an update about Animal Crossing on the Switch 2, and it's good news.

Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 last week, and made sure to confirm that the console does indeed have a form of backwards compatibility for original Switch games.

While some games from the Switch may have issues with playing on the successor console, pretty much all the major releases from Nintendo should run without a hitch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches in June!

Some games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Party: Jamboree will even have Switch 2 upgrades available that increase the framerate and resolution, as well as introducing new features exclusive to the new platform.

Nintendo has also confirmed that you'll be able to transfer your Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands from the original Switch to the Switch 2 without any issues.

So, if you were worried about all the hard work you put into making your island perfect, you don't need to worry about the Switch 2 potentially wiping all that progress.

The news was confirmed by Polygon in an interview with Nintendo's Takuhiro Dohta.

"So I should clarify that when you do the system transfer, everything like save data will remain on the Nintendo Switch and once it moves to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well," Dohta told Polygon.

"But the [Animal Crossing] island will be an actual move. So it will leave Nintendo Switch and move over to Nintendo Switch 2."

Transferring your island between consoles has been a bit awkward in the past.

If you upgrade or swap consoles, the main method is to download the “Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island Transfer Tool” app on both Switch consoles to make the transfer.

Alternatively, you can upload it to the cloud and redownload it on another system. However, this method also involves contacting Nintendo support, and is more or less intended for if you break or lose your original Switch.

But when upgrading from Switch to Switch 2, it seems this process will be more or less included with the overall system transfer which also includes copying over your save data for other games.

It should at least be a bit less of a faff than using the transfer tool.
