Halo: Reach gets new third-person mode that somehow works brilliantly

Halo: Reach gets new third-person mode that somehow works brilliantly

Halo: Reach in third-person is a whole new game

A new mod for Halo: Reach changes the game’s perspective to third-person, and it kind of slaps.

Third-person isn’t new for the Halo games by any means, as every time you hop into a vehicle or use certain abilities the camera will change to give you a better view, but this hasn’t extended to shooting until now.

Check out Halo: Infinite below, which is much better now than it was at launch

Of course Halo: Wars and Halo: Wars 2 were both third-person since they were real-time strategy games, but this mod will let you experience the close-quarters combat of Halo: Reach from an entirely new perspective.

You’ll need a copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam, and you can download the mod from the Steam Workshop, unfortunately console players don’t have any official mod support at the time of writing.

Once installed, you’ll be able to switch the camera to third-person in the game’s firefight mode, one of the best reasons to revisit Halo: Reach aside from the fantastic single player campaign.

As weird as it is to say, Halo: Reach in third-person is far more than just a different camera, as the mod turns the player into a marine rather than a Spartan.

This means it’s much easier for enemies to shoot you down, leading to some very intense firefight sessions.

You can see the mod in action via a Reddit thread by CrispyEdgePancake, which features a full gameplay video.

At the time of writing there isn't a similar mod available for the other Halo games like Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST, the best games in the series in my opinion, though give it time, they’ll probably happen.

If anything it’s another excuse to play Halo: Reach again, which is still considered to be one of the best games Bungie made.
