It’s time for another round of GTA VI fans being divided over leaked gameplay footage. We appreciate this must be annoying for those who don’t care, but the next GTA is a big deal, so, rightly or wrongly, the fans are wearing their expectations on their sleeves.

The latest divide comes from leaked co-op footage, with some fans claiming it’s “hard” to imagine GTA VI with a co-op mode. Although gamers are used to such mechanics in other games, the GTA fandom isn’t exactly well-versed in commanding allies to carry out actions.

What is more, they’re definitely not sold on spilt screen gameplay, which a few fear will be included if co-op play is officially a part of the game. Then there’s the question of whether such an in-game mechanic works in the world of GTA, as one fan posited. “I hope they don’t do co-op or the weird buddy commands thing… it could be cool yeah but I don’t see that working well in a GTA game, or even a Rockstar game for that matter.”

They continued, “I just want them [Rockstar Games] to play it safe, do a good story like they know they can do… and maybe even axe online and never let that see the light of day, but that would be too optimistic.”

Despite the odd fan saying they’d “never play spilt screen”, there are those who welcome the chance to have a controllable companion along for the ride. “Yes! This is what I thought too from the moment I saw the leaks,” replied an eager fan to the OP.

“A bot companion you can command around – [I] hope it’s true because it sounds amazing!” Given the fact that there are two main protagonists – Lucia and Jason – it would make sense for players to command their companion to help them during missions.

Clearly, an agreement amongst the fans won’t be reached any time soon. Besides, there are bigger worries to deal with, like the release date confusion that’s seriously set fans on edge. Everyone just wants this game to be the best it can be without any hitches.

But whether we actually get that is a different story…
