GTA 6 'Default Console' Confirms One Platform Is Priority

Has Rockstar Games picked a favourite?

GTA VI may have a priority default console, and to be honest, it should come as no surprise.

In the world of video games, money talks. From timed-exclusive games, DLC or in the instance of today’s story, extensive marketing that aims to suggest the best place to play the highly anticipated next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.

In truth, I very much doubt that it matters all that much whether you play GTA VI on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S; it’s going to be a near-identical experience.

Well, apart from the less superior Xbox Series S or the superior PlayStation 5 Pro, each offering various levels of performance and visual quality on either end of the scale. Regardless, the core game should not differ.

However, just like GTA V, it looks like much of the marketing for GTA VI will be promoted on PlayStation. The reason being, is that Sony has most likely thrown a ton of money at Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

“PlayStation is the 'default home console platform' for GTA VI,” tweeted NextGenPlayer, sourcing an article from GamesIndustry.biz. “PS5 is, for all intents and purposes, the de facto home console…planets are aligning for a very, very good 2026 for the company.”

It’s worth keeping in mind that the article from GamesIndustry.biz is an opinion piece. That being said, given previous partnerships between Sony and Take-Two, not to mention that the second GTA VI trailer was captured on PS5, the opinion lines up.

“So it should be 60fps on the base console, if that’s the case,” replied a hopeful CleoKujoPlays.

“GTA is bigger than exclusives; it doesn't need PlayStation for any reason whatsoever,” exclaimed AdamJohnHalo.

The suspected partnership could also likely mean that they’ll be GTA VI and PlayStation 5 console bundles at launch next year. But at this point, it’s mere speculation.
