GTA VI might feature a co-op mode, completely separate from the inevitable new version of GTA: Online.
It’s unknown how the new version of GTA: Online will function and whether our characters from GTA V will be transferable, but it’s probably a safe bet to assume we’ll be starting from scratch.
That’s not the only form of multiplayer GTA VI will have though apparently, as new leaks have suggested there’ll be a “Buddy Ping” mechanic which might be usable in some kind of multiplayer mission.

This was suggested by Reddit user Tobbelobben30 back when we were waiting for the first trailer for the game, and leaks were all we really had to go on.
Truthfully it’d be cool to play GTA VI’s story mode with a friend, as that’s not something we’ve seen in a Grand Theft Auto game before and perhaps Rockstar Games thinks it’s finally time to make it happen.
Realistically though this probably isn’t the case, as what’s the point in making the singleplayer part of the game multiplayer when there’s an entire online mode dedicated to playing with your friends/random people?
The ping mechanic is probably in the game though, but it’ll likely be used for any AI partners you have during the game.

Grand Theft Auto games often pair you up with NPCs on missions, often giving you a game over when said NPC dies, so perhaps this new mechanic will give you more control over where they go and what they do to make escort missions and the like easier.
I’d imagine there are quite a few missions that feature Lucia and Jason rather than one or the other too, so it all makes sense when you think about it.
As cool as it’d be to play GTA VI’s story mode with a buddy, I’ll be very surprised if it actually happens.
