God Of War legend announces new AAA Unreal Engine 5 single-player game

Look alive publishers, there’s a new game studio on the scene and it’s packing some serious industry talent.

Look alive publishers, there’s a new game studio on the scene and it’s packing some serious industry talent.

Giant Skull, based in Los Angeles is the latest new development studio creating "gameplay-driven, story-immersed, AAA action adventure games,” led by Stig Asmussen who’s best known for his work with the Star Wars Jedi and God Of War reboot games.

Asmussen left the Respawn team last year and now aims to create his own adventures, recruiting some major industry talent to help make it happen.

The current team at Giant Skull consists of developers from Respawn, Rockstar Games, Rocksteady Studios, Epic Games, Santa Monica Studios and even Blizzard-Entertainment.

It’s reported the team is aiming to create a rich universe that players will want to lose themselves in for years to come,” though no IPs have been shared or announced at the time of writing.

What we do know about the team’s first game is it’ll be an action-adventure title that’ll use the latest and greatest design tools from Unreal Engine 5.

Potential publishers and the platforms the game is being developed for are unknown, though it’s potentially safe to say the team is aiming for Xbox, PlayStation and PC at the very least.

Asmussen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from time spent with the EA Star Wars Jedi series and Sony’s rebooted God Of War series, both of which are confirmed to be getting a third game sometime in the future.

Giant Skull joins the game industry at a crucial time in its history, following mass-layoffs affecting a number of well-established teams and studios.

Lesser-known teams are also making headlines with games like Helldivers 2, which are being praised for providing fun, enticing gameplay without the premium price-tags larger companies place on new AAA releases.

It’ll likely be a while before we see what Giant Skull plans to bring to the table, though with such a strong team its first announcement should be an exciting one.
