The Wayward Realms is an upcoming RPG that is currently being developed by several former Bethesda employees, including Ted Peterson, Vijay Lakshman and Julian Lefay.

All three developers previously worked on Elder Scrolls titles in the past, with Ted Peterson serving as a writer and quest designer on The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and as a writer on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Julian Lefay also has a pretty impressive resume, but most notably worked as a programmer and as the project lead on the 1996 release of The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II - Daggerfall.

Likewise, Vijay Lakshman worked as both a lead designer and as the director of The Elder Scrolls: Arena in 1994.

The Wayward Realms officially began development back in 2019, after Jullian Lefay reached out to both Peterson and Lakshman so they could form a new company to work on the title; OnceLost Games.

A Kickstarter campaign for the game was launched in May this year and came to a close on the 29th of June, successfully managing to raise over £500,000 - which is more than £100,000 beyond its original goal.

A Steam page for The Wayward Realms also recently went live, although as of now there currently isn’t a specific release date for the title.

The game is described as “a new open-world fantasy RPG” and its Steam description emphasises that “choice and consequence are experienced on a scale never attempted before”.

The Kickstarter page also states that players can “Discover populations of warring factions, dangerous creatures, and an expansive cast of characters that come to life the more you interact with them.”

If you’re unconvinced however, they did also release a gameplay trailer a couple of months back. Considering the Kickstarter campaign only just ended, it looks like the game is a lot further into development than you might otherwise assume.

The game is currently set to release solely on PC, with no current news of whether or not it will be ported to other systems.
