Everyone’s copy of Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a free upgrade thanks to the 2.0 update, which will arrive before the DLC expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 has made a heroic comeback since its rocky launch in 2020. Since then, CD Projekt Red has regularly updated the game with bug fixes, quality of life changes, and even some new content sprinkled in for good measure.

Take a look at the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty below.

Now though, fans are patiently waiting for the most ambitious update yet, Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, which aims to completely overhaul the game prior to the Phantom Liberty DLC expansion.

Announced during Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live show, the update will add several new gameplay features, for free, to existing copies of the game on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.

New additions include 100 brand-new items, a completely redesigned skill tree, vehicular combat, new abilities and more. The update was initially believed to be released alongside the Phantom Liberty expansion on 26 September, but CD Projekt Red devs have teased the 2.0 update will be released first.

The developers were talking about the update during a recent stream, then confirming it’ll be released "a little bit before" the Phantom Liberty expansion, later adding "[It could be] a few days, weeks, who knows?"

As you can tell, they’re coyly holding the release date very close to their chests, though it’s probably a safe bet to assume the update will launch the week before Phantom Liberty, or a day before at the very minimum.

Speaking of Phantom Liberty, it’s a month away, and fans couldn’t be more excited. The new expansion will introduce an entirely new area to explore, a new story for V and the legendary Johnny Silverhand, and another celebrity thrown into the Cyberpunk 2077 world… Film and TV star Idris Elba will joining the game’s cast, playing the secret agent Solomon Reed, who’ll no doubt play an integral role in the new story.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC on 26 September.
