The release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is nearly upon us and fans have had a surprise treat raising the excitement for the upcoming expansion.

“Phantom Liberty is a new spy-thriller adventure for Cyberpunk 2077. Return as cyber-enhanced mercenary V and embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the NUS President,” reads the synopsis. “In the dangerous district of Dogtown, you must forge alliances within a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations. Do you have what it takes to survive?”

Phantom Liberty will take place after the events of the main campaign, and will not only be adding a new story and missions, but it will also star the charismatic Idris Elba as Solomon Reed, alongside the returning Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand.

However, as announced by CD Projekt Red during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, fans will also be treated to a new content update that will launch alongside the expansion adding a wealth of new features, even if you don’t pick up Phantom Liberty.

Update 2.0 will improve enemy AI during combat, implement a new Relic skill tree and will finally improve the AI of the NCPD meaning that the law enforcement “will respond to player actions in more realistic and engaging ways, including setting up roadblocks, attempting to ram players off the road" and more. “Driving around Night City will also see upgrades with the introduction of vehicle combat, which allows the player to shoot while driving and quickhack enemy vehicles from cars and motorbikes," the press release added.

As you can imagine, fans are buzzing with the news of Update 2.0. The Twitter thread revealing the ‘New Ways to Play’ trailer was full of love and praise for CDPR, quite literally. “I LOVE YOU!” exclaimed Dynasky1102, to which the official Cyberpunk 2077 account said I love you back. How sweet!

Love you back. 🔥

“These updates look cool. I'll probably start the game again to see all these updates in action for the entire game before I try the expansion!” said MithrieTV. “I love Cyberpunk 2077, so looking forward to this Phantom Liberty,” added Goddess_Maxwell.

In related news, fans have hailed the ‘all-time great’ performance by Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand and will no doubt be looking forward to seeing more of the popular character in Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty as well as Update 2.0 will be released on 26 September 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
