Baldur's Gate 3 finally has real-time combat thanks to the fans

No more turn-based combat

Baldur’s Gate 3 has some pretty sweet combat, but if you’re not a fan of turn-based games it might not be for you, luckily there’s a solution.

I can’t lie, I'm not a fan of Baldur’s Gate 3, even though I gave it a chance I just couldn’t get the hang of its Dungeons & Dragons-style gameplay.

If you’ve felt something similar while trying the game for yourself and have a decent PC, there’s currently a mod in development that might make a world of difference to you.

To put it simply, one player has managed to do away with the game’s turn-based combat system and make it real-time instead, which is quite the change but I think I might like it more than the base version.

The mod is still in early development so you can’t play it for yourself unfortunately, but you can see what it’s like in practice through a YouTube video by its creator.

Instead of patiently waiting for the enemy to make its moves before carefully selecting your own, the gameplay shifts to be a bit like Diablo or other roguelike games.

You can hack and slash as much as you want, though the enemy can do the same so there’s still some challenge and strategy to be enjoyed.

Again it’s very rough at the time of writing, but with a bit of time it could make for an interesting playthrough to see how it changes various parts of the game.

Don’t expect the developers to take any notes of this though, as while further updates are planned for the game there’s no chance one will make such a big change to the core gameplay.

While it just didn’t click with me, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still a fantastic game and one worth trying by all RPG fans.
