Assassin's Creed fans obsessed with Ezio's return in official new release

Ezio has returned, and fans aren't able to keep their cool about it

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is back, and his “new look” is causing quite the stir within the fandom.

Not to stir up discourse, but are you even an Assassin’s Creed fan if you don’t obsess over Ezio’s return? Even more so when he’s looking particularly fresh in an outfit that fans are (understandably) obsessing over?

Let's take a look at all the fantastic wins and epic fails from Assassin's Creed Valhalla!

Despite the likes of Black Flag’s Edward Kenway getting a lot of attention for his swashbuckling, roguish ways, it’s Ezio that’s been crowned gaming’s most beloved character. Indeed, without Ezio’s inclusion in the earlier AC titles, we can’t help wondering if the franchise would have become what it is today; such is Ezio’s legacy and allure.

Now that he’s officially returned in a new release, fans are nothing short of obsessed. Predominantly, their attention is over his attire, a crimson and grey/black outfit that some don’t recognise from his AC heyday.

One fan took to Reddit to enquire about Ezio’s seemingly new garb, and was met with plenty of responses to explain its origins. What was thought to be an unseen outfit is in fact one from the vaults, arguably an outfit that only gamers who have followed AC from the very beginning will recall.

“It’s Altair’s Armour. You get it in AC2 by completing assassin tombs,” the gamer then added, “I think it also appears as an outfit in the other games.” Another added, “Featured in AC Brotherhood, but modders have made it in other games like Black Flag, Rogue, and even Unity.”

From there, the comments get muddy with fans arguing over who’s a “real fan” for recognising the outfit; a discussion that’s hardly necessary. All that really makes is that Ezio has returned to us looking “pretty sick”, and is causing a commotion within the community as fans flock to admire this revival.

Ezio has returned in the new Magic The Gathering set, with this official expansion due for release in July 2024.
