Assassin's Creed Black Flag surprise free download is a hit with fans

Surprise!

We’re still sailing the seas in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, so imagine our surprise when this freebie became available.

In truth, Ubisoft updating the game shouldn’t come as a surprise given how popular the 2013 game still is.

But then again, Ubisoft hasn’t always been viewed as a generous publisher, which is likely why nobody expected this free download.

After waiting and waiting and waiting, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag now has achievements on Steam.

If you’re not an achievement/trophy hunter, move on to another article because this isn’t for you.

I’m talking to those gamers who make it their mission to get every achievement possible.

For them, this has been a long time coming.

Redditor DerTalSeppel remarked, “It was about damn time!”

Another fan bitterly joked, “Nice, it only took them 96 years to fix this basic feature.”

Now that this has happened in one game, people are wondering if Ubisoft will be so kind as to add Steam achievements to its other titles.

User Apple_Tango339 said, “Great news, hope other Ubi games all get achievements too.”

It would be a welcome addition, though we won’t be holding our breath until it happens – we'd like to still be alive by the time Christmas Eve comes around.

Still, let’s not sour this thrilling moment.

The fans have waited too long for me to pooh-pooh their feelings.

“Whoever at Ubisoft is making these decisions to get Steam achievements added are legends, two more games for me to replay!” slymaz posted.

We’re happy to see Black Flag still getting free downloads all these years later.

Sure, they’re not exactly earth-shattering ones, but at least players are finally getting features they’ve been begging for.

Christmas miracles do happen, they’re just really small ones.
